If you live in Frisco, you've probably defaulted to DFW or Love Field out of habit — they're the airports everyone in Dallas-Fort Worth already knows. But McKinney National Airport (DTX), Avelo Airlines' new commercial base, is genuinely close: about 19 miles via US-380 East, roughly 24 minutes without heavy traffic.
That's a shorter, simpler drive than either DFW (about 26 miles, 27 minutes) or Dallas Love Field (about 25 miles, 29 minutes) — and it skips the DFW terminal maze and Love Field's tighter curbside entirely. For a five-gate airport, that difference in hassle matters more than the mileage alone suggests.
DTX won't replace DFW for every trip — it's five routes at launch (Las Vegas, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers), not a global network. But if one of those five is where you're headed, driving 20 fewer minutes and parking closer to your gate is a real upgrade.
Drive times here are non-rush-hour estimates and will vary with traffic on US-380 and the Dallas North Tollway corridor. Commercial service begins November 11, 2026.
