The Closest Airport to Allen, Texas

Of every city near McKinney National Airport, Allen has the strongest case for switching. DTX sits about 7 miles north via US-75 — around 13 minutes door to curb, non-rush-hour. That's not a marginal improvement over DFW or Love Field; it's a different category of trip.

For comparison, Allen to DFW runs about 32 miles and 41 minutes, and Allen to Love Field is about 25 miles and 30 minutes. Once Avelo's flights start November 11, 2026, DTX turns what's normally a 30-to-40-minute airport trip into a 13-minute one — for the five destinations Avelo flies at launch (Las Vegas, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers).

The tradeoff is real and worth naming: DTX is a small, four-gate terminal with one airline and five routes, not DFW's global network. If your trip isn't on Avelo's route map, you're still driving to DFW or Love Field. But for the routes DTX does fly, Allen residents are about as close to a commercial airport as North Texas gets.
