Thanksgiving From McKinney: There's One Flight the Day Before

Thanksgiving 2026 is Thursday, November 26, two weeks after McKinney National Airport (DTX) opens. If you're hoping to fly out on the Wednesday before, the traditional busiest travel day of the year, there's exactly one scheduled Avelo departure from DTX: Fort Myers.

That's not a holiday cut. It's the regular schedule. In November, Avelo flies five routes from McKinney, and Fort Myers is the only one that flies on Wednesdays. The six December routes, including Denver and Atlanta, which add Wednesday flights, don't start until December 16.

Here's Thanksgiving week at DTX, day by day. Monday, November 23: Orlando, Las Vegas, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale. Tuesday, November 24: no flights (DTX has no Tuesday service). Wednesday, November 25: Fort Myers only. Thanksgiving Day, November 26: Orlando, Las Vegas, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale. Friday, November 27: the same four. Saturday, November 28: Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers. Sunday, November 29: Orlando, Las Vegas, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale.

One possible addition: Avelo has said it will add seasonal Wednesday and Saturday flights to Las Vegas for the holidays, but it hasn't announced when they start. If a Wednesday Vegas trip matters to you, check aveloair.com.

What it means in practice: the easy Thanksgiving trips from McKinney leave on Thanksgiving Day itself or the Monday before, and come home Saturday or Sunday. Orlando and Fort Lauderdale fly both Saturday and Sunday, which gives you the most flexibility on the way back.

If your family is somewhere Avelo doesn't fly, or you need to leave Tuesday or Wednesday, DFW and Love Field are still the answer this year. And book early: with one Wednesday departure and a handful of routes, the seats that work best for the holiday will go first.
