Flying From McKinney's New Airport Next Week? Here's What to Know
The airport put out its own first-flight checklist. The short version: use the full address, arrive 90 minutes early, bring a REAL ID, and eat before you come.

McKinney National Airport (DTX) opens to airline passengers on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, when Avelo's first flight leaves for Fort Myers. Las Vegas and Orlando follow on November 12, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale on November 19, and six more cities in mid-December. On November 4 the airport published its own tips for first-time passengers. Here's what matters, with what we'd add.
Use the full address. The passenger terminal is at 1910 FM 546, McKinney, TX 75069. That isn't the general-aviation side of the airport, so type the address rather than searching "McKinney airport." Your boarding pass and bag tags will say DTX.
Check your flight before you leave. The airport asks passengers to check Avelo's app or aveloair.com for the latest times, since schedules can shift with weather and air traffic control.
Arrive 90 minutes early. That's the airport's guidance, to allow for traffic, unfamiliar roads and parking. Avelo's own cutoff is firmer: checked bags must be at the counter at least 40 minutes before departure. Buy bags when you book; Avelo says it's cheaper than at the airport.
Bring the right ID. TSA screens every DTX passenger and requires a REAL ID-compliant license or a passport. If you don't have either, TSA's fee-based ConfirmID is an option. Check TSA.gov before you go.
Parking is $15 a day, and the first 30 minutes are free. There's one 980-space lot across from the terminal, with no shuttle and no reservations. It's ticketless: scan the Tap 'n Fly QR code, register your plate and pay by phone, and the exit gate charges you automatically. Our article on the official parking rates has the details.
Eat before you come. At opening, food is an interim snack-and-drinks kiosk and vending machines at the gates. A full-service concession and bar is coming later. Wi-Fi is free, the gate seats have charging ports, and there are water refill stations outside every restroom, so bring an empty bottle. Past security there are family restrooms, a nursing room and a pet relief area.
Getting home: Enterprise has a counter in the terminal and a return lot outside it, with no shuttle; search "McKinney National Airport" or "DTX" at enterprise.com. Uber and Lyft both pick up at DTX. Anyone collecting you can park free for 30 minutes.
Traveling with golf clubs or skis? Avelo charges extra for oversize and overweight bags; check aveloair.com before you pack.
