Airport Expansion

DFW Parking Gets More Expensive October 1. DTX Will Charge $15.

On October 1, DFW's terminal parking jumps from $32 a day to as much as $40. McKinney National opens six weeks later, and its lot is now reported at $15.

McKinney National Airport's new commercial terminal, which opens with a 980-space public parking lot

Update, September 25, 2026: DTX parking is reported at $15 a day for the 980-space public lot, paid through a contactless system (Community Impact, September 24). The airport's own website had not posted the rate yet. At $15, DTX is less than half DFW's new terminal rate, cheaper than every Love Field garage, and within a dollar of DFW Remote, without the shuttle. The original article follows.

On October 1, 2026, DFW International raises its parking rates. Terminal parking for a 6-to-24-hour stay goes from $32 a day to $37 with a TollTag, or $40 if you pay by credit card at the exit. Express North goes from $18 uncovered to $20 or $22 depending on how you pay, and from $21 covered to $23 or $25. Only the Remote lots hold their line, staying at $14 with a TollTag and rising to $16 on a credit card.

Six weeks after that increase takes effect, McKinney National Airport opens a 980-space public lot alongside its new terminal. It has not published a rate for any of it.

That silence is the most consequential unknown left before November 11. For a Collin County traveler, parking cost is the variable that decides whether DTX is genuinely cheaper than the airport they already use, or merely closer.

Here is the field DTX is stepping into. At DFW after October 1: Terminal $37 to $40 a day, Express North $20 to $25, Remote $14 to $16. At Dallas Love Field, where the City of Dallas sets rates: Garage A is $24 a day, Garage B is $21 covered or $18 on the uncovered roof, Garage C is $21 covered, $20 on the roof, and $30 on the third-level premium deck. Contactless valet at Love Field is $35.

The number that matters most is $14. DFW's Remote lots are the cheapest on-airport parking in the Metroplex, and they are what a price-sensitive traveler already chooses. If DTX prices its economy long-term above that, the pitch has to rest on something other than the daily rate.

Fortunately for DTX, it can. Remote parking at DFW buys you a shuttle ride and a wait, on top of a drive that runs 45 minutes or more each way from most of Collin County. McKinney's 980-space lot sits beside a four-gate terminal — the walk is the shuttle. On a four-day trip, a $5-a-day premium at DTX is $20, against roughly three hours of driving and shuttling saved. That is a trade most travelers would take.

There is a wrinkle worth naming, because it cuts against DTX. DFW advertises savings of up to 50 percent off drive-up rates for parking booked in advance, which can pull an Express or Remote stay well below the posted figure. DTX has selected a parking vendor but has not launched a booking system, so there is nothing to prebook and no discount to compare against. Whether DTX offers advance-purchase pricing at all is unknown.

The airport indicated rates were anticipated by September 2026. That window is now open, and nothing has appeared — while Avelo has been selling tickets for the November flights since June. Travelers are being asked to commit to a departure airport without knowing what it costs to leave the car there.

None of this is a red flag about the launch itself. Construction updates in September described the parking lot nearing completion, the roof nearly finished, and the building moving toward permanent power. Rate cards are a late-stage detail, and a vendor has been chosen. But it is a real gap for anyone doing the arithmetic right now, and it is the one number we would most like to see before the terminal opens.

We check the airport's published rates regularly and will update our parking guide the day official DTX numbers post.
