Flying With Toddlers From McKinney: A Parent's Survival Guide
Everything we wish we knew before boarding a flight with a toddler — from snacks to security lines.
Toddlers are unpredictable. Flights are not. The good news: a little planning turns a two-hour flight from a stress test into a story you'll actually laugh about later.
Book the earliest flight you can. Morning departures run more on-time, gates are calmer, and your child hasn't yet accumulated a day's worth of energy.
Pre-pack a small 'boredom kit' — new stickers, a fresh coloring book, and one screen-based backup. Rotate items every 20 minutes.
At security, wear slip-off shoes and pack liquids for the child in a clear bag. TSA generally allows formula, breast milk, and juice in reasonable quantities.
Board last. The less time strapped into a seat, the better.
