Florida is not one destination — it's at least four distinct trips from McKinney. Theme parks (Orlando), Gulf beaches (Tampa and Fort Myers), and Atlantic coast (Fort Lauderdale) each deserve separate planning.
First-time Florida travelers from North Texas often default to Orlando. That's the right call for families with young kids. Couples and empty-nesters may prefer Tampa or Fort Myers for a slower pace.

Multi-city Florida trips work if you rent a car. Orlando to Tampa is about 90 minutes; Fort Myers to Fort Lauderdale is about two hours.
