Flying From DFW and Love Field While McKinney Builds Commercial Service

Your practical guide to the two closest commercial airports until TKI launches passenger flights.

By Editorial Team

McKinney National Airport does not yet offer scheduled commercial passenger flights. Until it does, DFW International and Dallas Love Field are your best options.

DFW is 30–45 minutes from central McKinney depending on traffic on US-380 and the Dallas North Tollway. It's the right choice for international flights, most legacy carriers, and the widest route map.

Love Field is closer for southern Collin County residents and excels for Southwest Airlines routes. Check Southwest's schedule before assuming DFW is faster overall — the shorter drive can offset fewer connection options.

For early-morning departures, consider a hotel near the airport the night before. Both DFW and Love Field have on-airport and nearby hotel options with shuttle service.

When TKI commercial service launches, compare total door-to-gate time — not just flight duration. A shorter drive to McKinney may outweigh a slightly higher fare for many Collin County travelers.
